Memorial Service held for Robert Bourns DL

Weeks after attending a reception at Windsor Castle for The King's Awards for Enterprise, the sad death of Vice Lord-Lieutenant Robert Bourns was announced. Members of the Lieutenancy, the Society of Merchant Venturers where he was the current Master, and members of the legal profession where he was a former President of the Law Society of England and Wales joined his family and friends at a Memorial Service on 25 July at the Clifton Cathedral. 'Robert will be greatly missed as he was a remarkable man,' Lord-Lieutenant Peaches Golding says. 'He was appointed in April 2020 as Vice Lord-Lieutenant and served the County well. He was a magnificent and inspiring leader, diplomatic and courteous, whose counsel was to encourage common purpose, harmony and for us to be better than we could have imagined.  In addition to his role iin the Lieutenancy, held a number of national and regional leadership roles. These included being the current Master of the Society of Merchant Venturers, a former President of the Law Society of England and Wales, a former chair of Quartet Community Foundation, a Governor of Bannerman School and Merchant's Academy, a trustee of educational charity ABLAZE and many more. Robert was married to Fiona and they have four children.
