Life Cycle UK achieved the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS), the highest award given to groups across the UK in recognition of the outstanding creative and innovative work done by their volunteers. In presenting the award to Poppy Brett, Chief Executive of Life Cycle, the Lord-Lieutenant Peaches Golding cited that volunteers donated 1,400 hours per year on tandem bicycle rides for blind people in the Two’s Company project. Poppy confirmed that their projects rely on volunteers and without their contributions, their project would not take place. Jenny, a Two’s Company service user said, ’Not only has the cycling improved my well-being and health, it has also boosted my social life and ability to mix with sighted people.’ Trustees, service users and volunteers of Life Cycle attended a brief celebratory event which followed on from a bicycle ride. The charity can now display the prestigious QAVS symbol on its letterhead and printed materials.
