Hannoverians' summer visit to Bristol
7 August 2025

The Bristol-Hannover Council visited Bristol from 7 to 11 September to renew friendships and learn more about their twin city. The cultural programme included an introduction to the roles of the Lieutenancy and of the Lord Mayor. Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Peaches Golding OBE outlined a brief history of the Lieutenancy, which was established by King Henry VIII in the 1540s. She explained the range of activities carried out by the Lord-Lieutenant from looking after Members of the Royal Family when they are in the county to conducting ceremonial, religious, military, business and charitable activities. Lord Mayor Henry Michallat set out the ceremonial and civic duties of the role and his connection as first citizen of the City.
