Bristol is a welcoming and diverse city. Once a fortnight there is a citizenship ceremony, an event involving around 30 people that highlights British values of tolerance, freedom of speech, diversity and respect for others. The ceremony is the culmination of an application process taking up to three or more months. Applicants must be of good character and have a knowledge of life in Britain. In most cases they have lived here for more than five years.
